Safe public drinking water
DESIGN BRIEF
"Design a public water tap that encourages a healthy lifestyle by making it as accessible as possible."
USER RESEARCH
These water taps can be found in the neighborhood. Images on the ground are intended to stimulate their use by lowering the threshold for children. This photo was taken outside an elementary school.
People exercise a lot in this central area. It contains an athletics course, 100m sprint-course, tennis courts, a soccer field an fitness apparatus. Also there are community centers closeby as well as a kitchen garden.
In discussions with children and students we learned about their view on drinking water and their wishes for a public water tap.
This guy even helped us with sketches for the design the product!
IDEATION AND DESIGN
Thumbnail sketches were the first step to getting our ideas on paper.
The most promising sketches were turned into concepts, this being one of them: inspired by the famous streetpole of Amsterdam.
After the concept was chosen, we did some detailed sketches and turned to Solidworks to complete the design for manufacturing.
EMBODIMENT AND USE
The water starts flowing when pressing the button on the back of the tap.
On the floor, 'drinking water' is spelled out in twelve languages.
This project was commissioned to Muzus and was done in collaboration with Renée Schuffelers.
